Crape Myrtles are in full bloom right now and look spectacular. They were brought to Charleston in the late 1700s from China and Korea, and since then have become very popular in warmer climates all across the country. There are about 50 different species, which offers a range of sizes and bloom colors. Before planting one, it is important to decide on a species that will fit the area where it is going because they can grow anywhere from 1 foot to 100 feet high. Crape Myrtles thrive in the Charlotte area and are recommended as ornamental plants due to their showy blossoms that last almost all summer long.
